High End Audio Meets Digital Home Networking

08/22/02 - Onkyo has Introduced the TX-NR900, a 7 x 110-Watt THX select A/V receiver that not only handles every major home theater sound format currently in use, it also seamlessly unites the worlds of high-end audio and home computing. Equipped with Onkyo's Net-Tune™ capability, the receiver communicates with home PCs, and can access and decode Internet radio, MP3, and Windows Media Audio (WMA) files all via a standard TCP/IP Ethernet connection. Up to 12 different users can use separate Net-Tune Ready audio components … or ‘clients’ in network jargon … to independently access a music library ‘server’ and internet radio over wired or wireless Ethernet local area networks (LAN).Net-Tune allows an entire household to plug into and access music stored on their PC from anywhere in their home using Net-Tune Server software and Net-Tune ready 'clients' such as the TX-NR900. This system also allows for up to 11 other Net-Tune clients to connect to the same network, all delivering access to this centralized music server simultaneously. The receiver's on-Screen display shows song title, artist, album, genre, and playlist information, making the entire family's music collection easy to store and access, without the clutter of CDs and their cases. Not even a CD Jukebox can hold so much music, and deliver it so quickly and easily. The TX-NR900 is a full-feature home theater receiver, with onboard processing for THX Surround EX 7.1, Dolby Digital EX and Dolby ProLogic II, DTS-ES, DTS Neo:6, and even DTS 96/24, which provides 5.1-channel 96 kHz audio from conventional DVD players. High quality 192 kHz/24-bit D/A converters are used on all channels but the rear surrounds for digital processing, and with Onkyo's Pure Audio function, digital processing can be completely bypassed to preserve the purity of analog audio signals. As the centerpiece of a complete digital entertainment network, the TX-NR900 features a broad suite of connectivity options and features. HDTV capable 50 Mhz component video switching and Y/C separation for composite to S-Video conversion are included to maintain optimum video signal integrity. A total of eight digital inputs, including one on the front panel, and 2 digital outputs are included, and 5.1-channel analog inputs accommodate SACD and DVD-A players. There are also a wide array of multizone features, such as Onkyo's Powered Zone 2 which provides the ability to drive a set of stereo speakers in another room using the rear surround channel amplifiers, or using an external power amplifier. An On-Screen display provides control of all settings as well as access to network digital media playlists. A backlit preprogrammed learning remote with LED display makes system control and integration easy. The Onkyo TX-NR900 will be available in September at a suggested retail price of $1500.
