Onkyo Puts Your Entire Music Collection On A Nightstand

08/22/02 - Onkyo has introduced the NC-500 Net-Tune 'client', an executive mini-receiver that uses an Ethernet connection to access digital music files stored in a networked home PC. It also tunes Internet radio stations, which webcast MP3 or Windows Media Audio (WMA) files, via a network broadband connection. The NC–500 is simple and intuitive to set up and use, and makes thousands of hours of stored and webcast audio available instantly over wired or wireless home networks.Up to 12 different users can use individual NC-500s and other Net-Tune ready audio components, such as the Onkyo TX-NR900 A/V receiver, to independently access a central music library and Internet radio over wired or wireless Ethernet local area networks. Installing Net-Tune Central™ software on a home PC allows it to function as a 'server' without interfering with other uses. This library makes it possible to play a classical symphony in the kitchen, rock and roll on the deck, jazz in the basement, and up to nine other selections throughout the house; all completely independent of each other. As the centerpiece of a standalone mini-system, The NC-500 features a 20 Watt per channel WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) amplifier, and a high-sensitivity AM/FM tuner. Auxiliary inputs provide the option of adding an external CD player, MiniDisc, or cassette recorder. Programmable clock and timer functions make it ideal for use in the bedroom, kitchen, study, or den.The NC-500 also has conventional RCA line outputs, which allow it to serve as a source component to a preamplifier or receiver. This makes it a simple and convenient way to add Net-Tune capability to existing home audio or A/V systems. The NC-500 will be available in September at a suggested retail price of $400, or with an optional two-way speaker system at a suggested retail price of $500.
