| 10/18/05 - Onkyo has introduced the TX-SR703 A/V receiver, featuring XM satellite radio capability, and enhanced compatibility with Onkyo's recently introduced DS-A1 Remote Interactive (RI) iPod control dock. The THX Select2 certified home theater receiver delivers 7x100 Watts of power, a full suite of 7.1-channel surround sound processing, automatic speaker setup and calibration, and Powered Zone2 capability. The Onkyo TX-SR703 is one of the first XM-Ready home theater receivers available, making it easier than ever to bring XM Satellite radio into the living room. Using one of the widely available XM Connect-and-Play antennas, consumers can subscribe to and receive 150 channels of commercial-free music, news, talk, and entertainment programming. For conventional radio, there is also a high quality AM/FM radio tuner with 40 presets. Onkyo has also designed the receiver to take complete advantage of the company's recently introduced DS-A1 Remote Interactive iPod dock/charger. With the iPod placed in the dock, it becomes a source component for not only audio playback, but also for photography stored in iPod photo units. Controls for the iPod such as play, pause, stop, skip, random and playlist access can all be operated via the TX-SR703's backlit preprogrammed/learning remote controller. The TX-SR703 includes switching for three component video inputs and one output, with 100 MHz switching bandwidth to prevent any signal degradation with high definition (HD) video signals. The receiver also features upconversion with time base correction (TBC) of all composite and S-Video inputs to 480i component video, greatly simplifying connection to video display devices. There are five optical and two coaxial digital audio inputs, as well as analog inputs for five A/V sources and two audio-only sources, and a dedicated phonograph input. Thanks to Onkyo's automatic speaker setup feature, setting up and calibrating the TX-SR703 and speaker system to their acoustical environment is fast and simple. With the included microphone in the listening position, the receiver sends test signals to each speaker in turn, then automatically adjusts the channel level and time delay settings for each speaker to optimize system performance for multichannel audio and home theater. The TX-SR703 also features Onkyo's Powered Zone 2 feature, which employs two of the receiver's internal amplifier channels to power speakers in a second room while simultaneously providing a full 5.1 channel home theater system. For use with a second stereo zone, it is capable of either processing two sources simultaneously or sending the same signal to both the main zone and systems in other rooms. It also features a line level Zone 2 output to feed a second zone receiver or amplifier. The TX-SR703 features powerful 32-bit DSP processing for THX Surround EX, Dolby Digital EX and ProLogic IIx, DTS-ES, Neo:6, and the DTS-96/24 audio formats. The high quality 192 kHz/24-bit DAC found on each channel is combined with Onkyo's VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) to smooth the analog output, generating cleaner and more detailed audio reproduction. The subwoofer crossover is independently selectable for each loudspeaker pair, providing optimal integration with any speaker arrangement. The Onkyo TX-SR703 is among the first home theater receivers to carry the THX Select2 certification, which incorporates many elements of the THX Ultra2 standard, including Ultra2's multichannel audio and game modes, and the ability to deliver 7.1-channel playback of any 5.1-channel source material. THX Select2 certification ensures that the TX-SR703 meets all THX performance standards and specifications in small to medium sized listening rooms. The Onkyo TX-SR703 will be available in October in both black and silver finishes at a suggested retail price of $800.
